Why art is important?
The arts are important because of the wide variety of skills that are developed while doing art projects in the classroom. Students develop their fine motor and gross motor skills through clay or drawing lessons. Art class is where students are able to socialize, build their self-esteem and express themselves. I personally have a lot of memories from my childhood in the art room because of all the socializing that was happening. Lastly students are able to be creative and often consider more than one solution. Students are able to problem solve through sketches or models on how their finish project will end. Over all the arts are important for the multitude of skills built and developed.
Love the Youth Art Team community portraits because this really represents everyone being welcomed into this project. The Youth Art Team did a call for local heroes and community members nominated them. The team designed the cut-out sculptures and then UNI students made stop motion videos about the stories. Community member wrote about the heroes and they were honored and awarded and displayed through out the community. This was truly collaborative and everyone was welcomed to contribute.
